IFS-Informed EMDR Therapy

Healing at the Source: IFS-Informed EMDR Therapy

IFS-informed EMDR therapy combines two powerful approaches to create a comprehensive healing experience for those dealing with trauma, anxiety, and emotional distress.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an empirically validated therapy proven effective through extensive research. It’s trusted and used by organizations like the Veterans Administration (VA) specifically because of its demonstrated results. EMDR helps the brain process distressing memories and experiences that may be “stuck” in your nervous system. Through bilateral stimulation (BLS), EMDR helps your brain process these experiences in ways that talk therapy alone may not access.

In my practice, I offer several BLS options:

  • “Buzzies” (handheld tappers) – the most popular choice among my clients
  • Light bar for visual bilateral stimulation
  • Combined approaches for those who prefer it
  • Online EMDR using visual BLS

When I integrate EMDR with Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, we approach your healing journey with compassion for all parts of yourself. This combined approach allows us to:

  • Address traumatic memories with gentleness and respect
  • Recognize and honor the protective roles of different parts of yourself
  • Process difficult emotions without you becoming overwhelmed
  • Develop greater self-compassion and internal harmony

This approach is particularly effective for those dealing with childhood trauma, difficult relationship patterns, anxiety, and the effects of growing up in dysfunctional family systems.
